Around The Way

By Cathy Thomas & William Kheel

Originally produced for LATV, Around the Way is an urban eclectic cartoon strip developed by multi-talented writer and Bronx native, Cathy Thomas, and her partner in strips, William Kheel.

About the Characters:
Nne
Ruth Nneka DuPaul goes by “Nne”, pronounced en-yay. Born and raised in the West Indies, this copasetic and afro-centric owner of Around The Way cafĂ© can people-handle at the height of unimaginative weirdness making her the ringmaster of this neighborhood spot. This slam poetess is devoted to the arts and keeping her Grand Slam title. She has a charitable spirit but steal from her tip jar and she’ll evoke her own brand of Sharia Law on you. She’s a control freak with a heart of gold.
Kumar
If Nne is the ringmaster then Kumar is the angry clown. This British expat is content with his life, and lives on for the next party. Kumar is a genuine culture vulture who makes it his business to know yours. He is a snob in training, a king of lay-away, and a prince of bad credit. Kumar walks the fine line between his own sexuality and that of everyone else’s. He fashions himself a universal lover and won’t submit to being labeled. His honesty is mistaken for rudeness, and his rudeness is never mistaken.
