(page 4 of 4)Kelly: Consider your whole neighborhood your farm. Go around on foot or on a bike. If you’re in a car, you’ll never see it. If you’re a dog walker or a bicyclist you see food opportunities. And we forage all the time, even though we’ve got our own stuff. I pick up avocadoes, peaches. There’s many different avocado trees in this neighborhood.
Erik: A lot of invasive weeds are edible and found throughout the country.
Kelly: The reason for weeds is that settlers brought them and not necessarily accidentally. They were called pot herbs; dandelions and plants were actually used. We used to have a much broader range of plants considered edible: plantains and stinging nettle are edible and highly nutritious.
