COMMON GROUND—THE WESTSIDE HIV COMMUNITY CENTER
Description: For 15 years, Common Ground has offered low-cost or no-cost mental-health services to West Side residents whose lives are impacted by AIDS and HIV. Services include comprehensive assessment, crisis intervention, mental-health-care management and ongoing individual, couples and family psychotherapy. The clinic also offers workshops and ongoing support groups for women and Spanish speakers. Workshops work toward positive outcomes in setting short and long-term life goals, disclosing HIV status and reducing risky behaviors.
Clientele: HIV-positive individuals, high-risk and/or homeless youths, and others whose lives are directly impacted by AIDS and HIV. Common Ground serves residents of the area extending north to Malibu, south to LAX, west to the Pacific Ocean and east to the 405 freeway.
Problems Addressed: Ongoing individual, couples, and/or family psychotherapy addresses a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, drug and alcohol issues, behavioral disturbances, transition/adjustment issues, and grief and loss.

SALVATION ARMY TRANSITIONAL LIVING CENTER
Description: A residential center that provides refuge for families and children during times of crisis and transition. Residents often come from situations involving substance abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. The counseling program is part of the center’s holistic approach. The program offers individual child counseling, family counseling, parent-support counseling, facilitative parenting groups, and psycho-educational children’s groups.
Clientele: Children and families.
Problems Addressed: Substance dependence, situational homelessness, domestic violence, depression, child abuse, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, childhood disorders.
