Armenian Genocide Story Suppression at LA Times
Posted by david
Looks like we got a great story brewing about bias and ethics over at the LA Times
Apparently a Times writer wanted to write a piece on the Armenian Genocide
However, since he had spoken out on this topic before, his editor felt that it would be unethical to allow the writer to do the story—readers should be entitled to impartial/unbiased press, and should be unaffected by the personal views of the writer.
Now things get interesting as the reporter was Armenian, and the article suppression now becomes an issue of discrimination.
Of course, this begs the question of how impartial could any journalist ever hope to be—I mean really. And maybe taking the stance of impartiality is what really gets us in trouble.

Is it unfair discrimination if the writer already had a recorded opinion on the topic? How does the reporter's ethnicity automatically make it a matter of discrimination?
